Todd Martin and his vivacious wife Amy were the invited guests of honor at the Mayo Clinic Dept. of Surgery graduation dinner in June 2009. He gave the keynote address. His speech theme related to excellence and the traits and characteristics necessary to achieve excellence. Now imagine for a moment the potential difficulty relating Mr. Martin’s world of tennis to the world of surgery!

He was an instant success. Mr. Martin’s keynote address was superb. His message was clear, insightful, and relevant . His examples in the tennis world complemented his message to the young surgeons going into practice and the Mayo clinic surgery faculty. He was captivating, fun and his warm, charming personality made for a wonderful evening!

It was great having Todd Martin give an on-court clinic and also serve as the keynote speaker at our 2007 ITA Coaches Convention in Naples, Florida.

Todd is a wonderful role model for both our varsity student athletes and our college tennis coaches: as a top ten in the world tennis professional, his intelligence and integrity were his signature trademarks, along with his huge serve and extraordinary determination.

The clinic that Todd gave to our varsity tennis coaches was illuminating and full of valuable suggestions, and received rave reviews. And his keynote talk at our Welcoming and Awards Banquet was an excellent blend of anecdotes and insights and humor --- and without doubt was one of the most special highlights of our Convention.

Todd's background and experiences make him an ideal presenter for any audience. He has been a featured speaker at some of USPTA's largest events, its World Conference on Tennis and Competitive Player Development Conference. On each occasion he has delighted event participants with his knowledge, professionalism and humor. Even when the weather didn't cooperate, he was up to the challenge. People came up to me to tell me how very impressed they were with his presentation and grateful he took the time to be there. The term they used the most was "class act," but, of course, that is not news since he was always a class act as a player.

I have known Todd for over 20 years, and in that time I have seen him develop as a world-class tennis player as well as a true student of the game. Todd has carried his insights on to his second career providing his knowledge to others. He has parlayed his tennis skills to those needed in presentations by using similar principles - excellent preparation, quick thinking on his feet, solid strategies and great execution. Because of this, he has become a truly excellent speaker and motivator. His content as well as delivery are first rate as evidenced by ‘standing room only” audiences.

Todd Martin's accomplishments as a player are unquestioned. He reached a ranking of Top 5 in the world along with two Grand Slam finals. His abilities as a coach are also of a world class level. Todd's coaching emphasized the importance of footwork and balance, and their impact on my overall game. Todd offered insights into a wide range of areas that only a former professional champion could provide. Todd's style as a coach is very positive and he also helped me in how to handle high pressure situations in match play. Todd is not only an outstanding coach, and he is a terrific person. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and learned a tremendous amount about the game during my time with him.

The short time I spent training with Todd Martin in Jacksonville was highly beneficial for my tennis game. In only a week I was able to refine my strokes, hit with great players, and develop new strategy on court. I was provided with insight that took my game to a whole new level, by improving my strengths and suring up my weaknesses. Todd prepared me for my college tennis career by teaching me the importance of working hard and learning from my mistakes. In addition, the training was conducted at a top notch country club located in sunny Florida.

I met Coach Todd last year while he was playing at the Palisades tournament and then was able to train with him in Florida this year. Before my arrival, he spent a lot of time getting to know me and my game better with a personal questionnaire and phone calls to both my parents, my coach and me. When I showed up, he had a very specific game plan for me to work on and he really helped show me areas that I could work on to improve my game both physically and mentally. He is one of the most thorough coaches I have worked with and one of the most genuine people I have ever met. My time with Coach Todd showed me many things that I was missing in my training program. He talks regularly with my home coach to keep up with my progress and to make sure I am still working on the right things. I am a better tennis player today because of the time I spent with Coach Todd.

Todd Martin is the most professional coach with whom we have ever worked. He is top-notch in every way, from communication with us and our daughter, to his technical knowledge of the game, to his desire to understand and ability to motivate a player, to his willingness to collaborate with a player's home coach. Most importantly, Todd is a good person with high moral values. We cannot imagine a more positive coaching experience for a tennis player.
